Photo of Karen CatlinI’m Karen Catlin. After a successful career in the tech industry, I’m now “paying it forward” by helping to create more diverse and inclusive workplaces.

My Story
In my first career, I spent 25 years building software products, starting off as a software engineer and, over time, moving into leadership roles. I was a vice president of engineering at two public software companies, and served as the CEO of an early-stage startup. During those years, I saw a decline in the number of women working in tech.

What I Do
Today, I’m a leadership coach, speaker, author, and passionate advocate for inclusion and diversity. I coach women to be stronger leaders as well as men who want to be better allies for underrepresented groups. I speak about inclusive workplaces, tech leadership, and women in tech. To help more people cultivate ally skills, I wrote Better Allies: Everyday Actions to Create Inclusive, Engaging Workplaces. And, to bring more diversity to speaker lineups at tech industry events, I teach public speaking and co-authored Present! A Techie’s Guide to Public Speaking.
